The US domestic economy has seen better days. Which candidate do you think is going to revive the economy, and why? Who do you think will do the most to help local producers and could be considered a locallectual?

Look! Made in the USA t-shirts on the Obama website!
http://store.barackobama.com/

John McCain has a Go Green t-shirt section, but it does not say Made in the USA. In my experience, this usually means Made Elsewhere.

If Obama is enlightened enough to have Made in the USA shirts during his campaign, I think his priorities will line up as president toward a good Made in the USA movement...yes?

"Obama is enlightened" - I would agree with this.

I have spent some time tracking the policies of all the contenders in the upcoming presidential election and enlightenment does not seem to fit many of the others.

It's more like policy decisions have gone towards "Enlobbyment".

"Enlobbyment" I love it.

I do feel that Barack is less tainted by the evils of the political machines run by the lobbyists.

It's hard to look at McCain and not picture hundreds of fliers being thrown in his face telling him what, how, why, or where he should say something.

I realize I am being a bit naive; Obama has it happening too: I just trust Obama's youth.

My question, though, is if anyone has found information from these candidates about encouraging Americans to buy American-made in order to fight the rising gas prices.

Is there anything out there like that? Or are we too entrenched in the global machine for the candidates to ruffle feathers and suggest such a thing.

Buying American would make us rely less on China and oil-countries. Have any of them even KIND of implied it?

This information:
http://www.aflcio.org/issues/politics/mccain_trade.cfm

would make me think that McCain is the Opposite of a Locallectual. An anti-locallectual perhaps?

Has anyone seen any evidence of his support of domestic jobs? Just curious to see the other side.

Ooo! Ooo! More information about John McCain:

They call him "Anti-Buy American!"

This dude on YouTube is SUPER opinionated about McCain's stance on buying American, particularly after a statement McCain made about Harley Davidson motorcycles. Opinionated, but very nice about it. It's just a matter of fact!

He quotes from a piece of paper:

"McCain said he was disappointed that the Secret Service required to purchase American-made motorcycles saying he firmly objected and opposed to all such policies."

There has been a huge ad campaign in Wisconsin about Harleys and McCain's claim that buy-American provisions are "disgraceful."

I haven't read more about this than one Google search, but damn.

Democrats.org has a great section called McCain Myth Buster:

McCain Myth Buster: John McCain and American Jobs

Each point seems to reinforce that it just comes down to making the most money for the market economy. But this baffles me because one big selling point for the party is patriotism...what gives?

Here are the claims the Democrat website makes relating to John McCain and buying American:

- Air Force Tanker Deal to Outsource Tens of Thousands of Defense Jobs.
- McCain Sponsored Amendment that Ended Defense Department's Buy America Requirement.
- McCain Was "Disappointed" that the Secret Service Was Required to Purchase American-Made Motorcycles.
- McCain Mocked "Buy America" Provisions, Saying, "I'll Sleep Better At Night Knowing That All Our Carbon Plates Are Manufactured in the U.S."
- McCain Described "Buy America" Provisions As "Ludicrous."

I'd say John McCain is NOT the candidate that will help bolster the Buy American movement, not to mention the Shop Local movement!
