Check out this idea I read about in the blogosphere:
A
Food Swap! They call it "Tastes Like Home".
Rainbowbrown of the blog
brown interior wrote about the Ohio food package she just got. Not only did her package have homemade foods, it also featured locally produced foods like bean soup and maple syrup.
The idea was started by two other food bloggers:
Megans Cooking and
Abby Sweets.
I would make a sweet Virginia package for sure. Just hit up my local Farmer's Market on Saturday for some locally made mustard and locally roasted coffee send some local cheese straws, hopefully some Virginia wine. It would be so easy to fill a whole box! And then someone else would know what it's like to be a Virginia Locallectual!
I read a few other blogs from people involved in Tastes Like Home who got packages from Ohio and one from New York.
I wonder if the swap could be even more localized to a 100-mile radius and really pick up on the locavore movement! Plus add to the challenge! Pickle your watermelon rinds and make your own jam!
