A while back, I blogged about an opinion piece by Stephen J. Dubner which knocked locavorism. When I wrote that blog, I said that "I found the myriad of articulate responses already in place pretty much covered all the bases." Well, guess what - Mr. Dubner is back with his lame response to all of the comments he received, and once again, the (new) comments say it all. Check it out if you love a good debate! -Karen

Be present is "grassroots and family owned company infused with the spirit of yoga." They are not only a small, family owned business that values close relationships with clients, but they also utilize environmentally friendly practices. This is a company that values doing the right thing. Every item of clothing is proudly made in the USA; the majority are made near their headquarters in Denver. When you choose your yoga apparel, be sure to choose something that comes with "good energy" such as the ethically-made, beautiful products by be present. -Karen

This piece about FesslerUSA, a private label apparel manufacturing company, tells the story of how the company overcame challenges over the years, such as NAFTA going into effect. As they watched many garment companies go out of business, FesslerUSA found ways to not just stay afloat, but to thrive. An inspiring story, to be sure. -Karen

What Would Jesus Buy : This hilarious documentary is worth a watch. It tells the story of activist/performance artist Bill Talen, who goes by the alias of "Reverend Billy." Along with a group of activists, he has formed the performance art "Church of Stop Shopping." It was released last November, and came out on DVD this year. I missed it in the theaters, so I was excited to watch it when it was released on DVD. Before I saw it, I knew that the general message was to "stop shopping" and fight rampant consumerism. What I didn't know is that the message beneath that was: Yeah, we all have to buy things once in a while; it is unavoidable. So let's stop and make a conscious decision about what we buy and who we buy it from. Think about who made it and under what conditions it was made. Basically, the Locallectual Manifesto! A must see! -Karen
