Canada is going for one million acts of green, meaning the citizens of Canada are being asked to record their green acts, big and small, in a collective effort to make the country greener. The people behind this green movement want to show Canada that it doesn't take a major overhaul of your life to be greener, but that little efforts made by lots of people add up to big change.
Check out the site to see how many acts of green have been reported. As of writing this there had been 223,985 acts of green which has save 11,911,754 kg of green house gases. This is awesome, Canada! Keep up the good work, and hopefully others will adopt the mindset that every little bit counts! -Jess

Ya'll remember that 90's television mistake named Tom Green? Well he's back on television and this time using his obnoxious comedy style for good, by hosting an eco-minded game show on Discovery's Planet Green. Go for the Green is a quiz-type show where 50 audience members compete against each other. For a full wrap up of the games concept and rules, check out the Go for the Green page on the Planet Green site. Check out the Planet Green site to play a free online version of Go for the Green, and if you have Planet Green watch the show tonight...I'm curious to see how it turns out!

So after writing yesterday's blog on Christmas LED lights, I discovered even cooler Christmas lights - solar powered Christmas lights for your decorating! Solar powered Christmas lights use the LEDs, like the other lights I told you about, to provide the illumination. The solar panel just needs a minimum of 3 hours of direct sunlight each day to keep your lights shining all night and many times into the next morning. But worried about an electrical fire? We've been hearing for years about how not to leave your tree on when you're not home or asleep, but solar Christmas lights will not catch fire from faulty power cords. They don't plus in! They also have longer bulb lights, and no wires to worry about. And um, lower electric bills - thats a big plus! Though a little bit more pricey initially, the money you save year and year with solar powered bulbs make them well worth the investment. -Jess

If anyone's looked for Christmas decorations before, you might have realized they aren't what's holding the American economy up. Most labor on these decorations are outsourced to China. So even if you can't have the most domestically-friendly holiday, you can at least work on have a green one, and over the next two months I'm going to offer you tips on how to do so.
My first tip is about the hottest new trend in holiday decorating that I heard buzz about during Halloween, and am now hearing much more about as we head towards Christmas. It's all about replacing those hazards-of-christmas-lights with LED christmas lights, which let off light similar to that of traditional light strings, but save much more energy.
If every Christmas junkie in
the U.S. were to replace their traditional holiday lights with LED
lighting, the US could save at lest two billion kilowatt hours of
electricity, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. That energy would be enough to power 200,000 American homes for a year! Even more energy will be saved if we get all those crazy house decorators to get on board... -Jess

What's more referenced in the bible than love and heaven? The planet wins in with over 1,000 references while those measely other topics come in with only about 500 references each. So what does this mean? It means that God would want you to read the new "Green Bible", which is printed on partially recycled paper in soy-based ink. The "Green Bible" also indexes all mentions of animals, land and water, and highlights in green ink all verses of the New Revised Standard Version that discuss the care of the planet. So pick this copy up at your nearest book store. God would want you to. -Jess
