THIS IS HUGE! Due to rising fuel costs, Wal-Mart has decided to buy local fruits in vegetables. Buying locally will help keep fuel costs down as well as give their consumers piece of mind after all the recent health scares (most recently with tomatoes). It also helps Wal-Mart's most recent campaign to highlight their environmental consciousness (cough, cough suuuuuuurrrrreeee). Wal-Mart is defining local as anything grown within a state's boundaries. With this decision, Wal-Mart will become the largest retailer of locally grown produce in the United States. Wal-Mart always have to the be the biggest something, huh? I shouldn't hate...props to Wal-Mart for buying local...whatever their motives! -Jess
