It seems a bit strange to me that a recent article about the USDA relayed that this organization does not see a connection between America’s public food programs and the country’s adverse rates of obesity. In fact, most of the legislation that has been passed here of late has attempted to—if even just barely—remediate the poor nutritional tendencies of the past. So what is this quotation that, according to USDA reps, “Food stamps, school lunch and other public nutrition programs do not contribute to an obesity epidemic affecting millions of children and adults, despite blame levied by critics…” about? I’d be interested in finding out myself. Especially when the White House lawn proudly parades a 1,100 square foot organic garden that both Vilsack and the Obamas are so obviously proponents of.
