Blue Ridge Harvest Fest

This fall, Locallectual, along with the blue moon fund, is proud to sponsor the first annual Blue Ridge Harvest Festival. This week-long event will be a celebration of the local foods of central Virginia, and will serve to raise awareness about the benefits of eating locally. This is a chance for Charlottesville to spread the word on not only the benefits of eating locally, but also on the available means to do so. The goal is to assist in expanding Charlottesville's growing Locavore Community.

The 2008 Blue Ridge Harvest Festival will begin on Sept. 28th and continue through Oct. 5th.

Participants in the 2008 Blue Ridge Harvest Festival include:

St. Anne’s - Belfield School (STAB)
Feast! Cafe of Charlottesville
Universtiy of Virginia School of Architecture
University of Virginia Health System
University of Virginia Dining Services
Jefferson Area Board of the Aging (JABA)
Walker Upper Elementary School
University of Virginia, Darden School of Business

The Blue Ridge Harvest Festival will feature talks by speakers Mark Winne, author of Closing the Food Gap and Susan Moser of Salad Gardening for Profit Revisited. The Blue Ridge Harvest Festival will also feature the new documentary by Frank Melli, Meet the Farmer, which will be shown in Charlottesville. PBS is also considering airing this program.
