Who’s Here:
Not every company that manufactures in your area is on Locallectual, and here’s why: Locallectual strives to promote companies that manufacture in their own country. Whether you prefer to buy from a local dressmaker or a haute couture designer, a craftsman making wooden toys or an artisan building custom cabinetry, each producer’s core product line must be domestic to make the Locallectual cut.

We do promote and support companies who make the whole of their core product line domestically, minus a few specialty pieces. (If a company makes a vast majority of their goods domestically, minus a few items, they’re in.) We do make note of this, and also clearly note companies that are “100% Local.” These companies get a Locallectual Gold Star for producing all their product lines domestically. 

The Locallectual Platinum Star goes to companies that not only produce all their goods domestically or locally, but also use exclusively domestic or local components or ingredients.

Who’s Not Here:

• The obvious: companies that outsource production to other countries.

• Multi-level marketing companies (or MLMs).

• Some artists: Artists and studios that create items that can be used in a functional, everyday manner (pottery, jewelry, glass lighting fixtures, furniture) are included. There are other online venues for visual, musical, and other artists to showcase their valuable work.

• Producers without web pages. Unfortunately, until a company or producer has a website that allows us to showcase their products, we can’t include them on Locallectual.

 
They Are Locallectual Worthy, Why Aren't They Here?:

As you may already know, findng local products can be like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. We are adding new local businesses daily, but need your help to find them all. If you know of companies that meet the Locallectual standards, then by all means, help us out and submit them here!
